Robyn Beeche – London Calling

Robyn Beeche – London Calling

23 July – 28 August 2010

Internationally acclaimed photographer Robyn Beeche moved from Sydney to London in the mid 1970’s. From catwalk shows to clubs, she captured the leading artists and designers of the time, and worked extensively with artists and designers including Zandra Rhodes, Vivienne Westwood, Leigh Bowery and Mary Quant, collaborating with legendary makeup artists Richard Sharah, Phyllis Cohen and Richard Sharples.

Beeche’s images provide a colourful insight into the aesthetics of underground London in the 1980’s. Working pre-digital and pre-photoshop, Beeche’s approach to fashion photography raised the stakes for all who followed her. She looked beyond the brand and the market and instead embraced creative collaboration, invention and a robust sense humour to turn fashion photography into an artform.
