I love a sunburnt country

Taking its title from Dorothea Mackellar’s poem My Country, this projection assembles works by three Australian photographers who focus on the complex and yet fragile human interactions with the landscape. Set in remote parts of Australia, these images challenge the romanticised views of the Australian countryside to focus on its fragile and uncertain state. Documenting the impermanence of things, Tamara Dean, Matthew Abbott and Jordan Madge attempt to depict a place where real and imagined fuse whilst opening a space and a time for contemplation. Together they indicate, to borrow the words of Yves Bonnefoy, an “elsewhere in the absolute”.
