ACP Workshop — Specialist

Once you have mastered the foundation and intermediate skills of photography you can go on to explore a variety of specialist subjects at ACP. Taught by some of Sydney's leading photo-practitioners, these courses combine hands-on experience with expert teaching, through which you will learn both the practical skills and the creative ideas that underpin your chosen subject.

Demand is always intense and prospective students are advised to enroll in their chosen course well in advance of the published starting date. To ensure you and your fellow students get the best out of each class there are necessary prerequisite levels of skill. These are indicated in the course outlines. New members who already have basic skills should arrange an interview with a member of the ACP Workshop team for a portfolio review. Our trained staff will then be able to advise you on the course best suited to your current level of expertise.

Advanced Night Photography Focusing on analogue photography you will delve deeper into the technical and creative approaches to night photography. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week, $425.00/$385.00)

Architecture This course will explore the history and aesthetics of photographing the built environment and the techniques required to master its representation. (10 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Available Light Portraiture Where there is light you can have photography. In this specialist course with Marco Bok you will look at the use of ambient light in photographic portraiture by considering arresting examples from the history of photography and painting. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Digital Composites This five week course with award winning photographer and digital artist, Alexia Sinclair, is aimed at developing students’ individual style as it relates to their own art practice. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Documentary A photographic document is one of the most powerful forms of contemporary communication. It can help us understand the foreign and cast new light on the familiar. (10 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Environmental Portraiture In environmental portraiture the subject's environment is the stage and sets the scene - it provides evidence or clues as to a person's tastes, interests and socio-economic background. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Fashion Through a stimulating combination of lectures, demonstrations, assignments and analysis, you will be encouraged to develop a personal style and approach to fashion photography. (10 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week, $725.00/$650.00)

Fine Art Black & White Take your camera and darkroom skills to a new level with this intensive black and white course. An excellent print requires an outstanding negative. (10 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Food Photography In this 5 week specialist Lighting class students will develop their own ideas, from concept and pre-production planning to the final execution of mouth watering food photographs. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week, $445.00/$405.00)

Hollywood Lighting This 5 week specialist Lighting class explores the unique styles of master photographers from the golden era of Hollywood, such as George Hurrell, C.S.Bull, Whitey Schafer, Lazlo Willinger, Bert Six and Eugene Robert Richee. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Large Format Photography Large format cameras allow the photographer to finely control both perspective and planes of focus and to capture images of superb quality with unsurpassed detail. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week, $425.00/$385.00)

Night Photography Photographers have long been fascinated with the surreal and mysterious quality of night scene images. Night photography challenges the technical limits of both camera and photographer. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Photojournalism It can be argued that photojournalism is one of the most reliable and immediate forms of communication giving evidence of events globally. In an environment where the need for information is insatiable, photojournalism helps to answer questions and give rise to new ones. (10 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Portraiture To make a successful portrait is to glimpse the essence of a person, to show the soul reflected in the features. This challenging course explores in depth the techniques and aesthetics of photographing people. (10 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Product Photography This five week specialist lighting course will teach you how to make attractive commercial images for magazines, catalogues and the web. You will learn how to photograph reflective surfaces, construct small sets, build a product portfolio, and work with artistic directors. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Shoot like the Masters This 5 week specialist Lighting class explores the unique styles of four master photographers: Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, David LaChapelle and Horst P. Horst. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Skin The human form has held an enduring fascination for artists across time and culture. Depiction of the body has been central to art since cave paintings and fertility figures. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Sports Photography In this specialist course, you will learn about the techniques, tips, equipment, and media protocol required to photograph sport anywhere from your local sports ground to the biggest public sporting arenas. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

Street Photography Live life as adventure and embrace the chaotic energy and chance offerings of everyday street life. (10 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week, $725.00/$650.00)

Travel Photography In this 5 week specialist course you will learn how to take compelling travel photographs. Your tutor, award winning photographer Nuran Zorlu, has travelled extensively and is well versed in both eastern and western culture. (5 classes / 3 hours per class / 1 class per week)

ACP Membership is required for all courses* and access to the ACP Workshop facilities. Membership is valid for 1 year and entitles you to:
