Workshop Hours: Mon-Sun 10am-6.00pm


The ACP Workshop facilities include a state-of-the-art digital suite, a fully equipped lighting studio, black & white and colour darkrooms, film processing facilities and a library of specialist photography books and magazines from around the world. ACP Membership is mandatory for access to all facilities and courses*.

Workshop - Digital Hire

The digital media suite features 11 networked iMac G5 20" Superdrive computers. All computers come equipped with CD/DVD burners. Software includes: Photoshop and Bridge CS3, InDesign CS2, Illustrator CS2, Acrobat CS2, GoLive CS2, and Lightroom v2.0. Scanning facilities include: Epson Perfection 4990 (up to A4 print and up to 10x8" film). Printing is available via the large format Epson Stylus Pro 4000, capable of producing archival images up to A2 (420 x 594mm) in size.

Time can be paid for by the hour or purchased in packages which offer bulk-rate discounts. Once purchased bulk time can be used for either darkroom or digital facilities. Bulk rates are paid in advance and are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Workshop - Darkroom Hire

The darkroom is fitted out with LPL enlargers for both colour and black & white photographs capable of working with negatives up to 6x7". A 4"x5" sheet-film enlarger available on request.

Black & white printing is wet-tray and caters for prints up to 16"x20" (40 x 50mm) in size. Colour prints are processed using a fully automated Focus RA4 machine, which takes paper up to 24" (610mm) wide. Film processing is available for black & white in 35mm and medium formats. Chemistry is supplied for all darkroom facilities.

Members are required to supply their own multigrade filters (for black & white printing), photographic paper and accessories such as scissors, negative sleeves, blower brushes and so on. Many of these items are available for purchase from the Workshop reception.

Workshop - Studio Hire

The lighting studio is 7.4 x 5.6m and features an entire wall of windows facing north, offering an abundance of natural light. There is also the capability to black the studio out completely.

Artificial lighting includes: 3 tungsten Arrilites, 1 floodlight, a studio flash floorpack with 2 heads and 3 studio flash monoblocs. The use of a Minolta IVF light meter is included.

The studio is also equipped with various tripods, stands, lighting accessories and coloured backdrops. Members must supply their own flash sync cord or can hire the infrared 'slave' unit for $10 per session.

ACP Membership

ACP ACP Membership is required for all courses* and access to the ACP Workshop facilities. Membership is valid for 1 year, costs $50 and entitles you to:

  • Regular mailouts about ACP exhibitions and events
  • 10% discounts on all ACP catalogues and publications
  • Discounts at selected photographic stores and labs
  • Free use of the ACP research library

* ACP Membership is required for access to the facilities and for all courses except Camera Craft I, II, III and Digital Camera Basics, where it is optional.
ACP Premium Membership is required to participate in the Afterlife program.
