Pinhole Photography

Intermediate Course
3 classes / 3 hours per class / Weekend

In this fun, hands on course you will be taken back to the basic principles of photography by making and using your own pinhole camera.

A Pinhole camera has the bare essentials of what is required to make a photograph - a light tight container, a small opening and some light sensitive material. We experience photography at it’s most fundamental level, in contrast to the high tech complexity of today’s cameras.
The simplicity of the pinhole camera requires us to give up some of the control that we normally exercise over a modern camera, such as careful framing and choosing a point of focus.

The course will cover a broad range of Pinhole cameras from simple and homemade to the more sophisticated manufactured cameras. You will explore paper negatives, film and digital applications. There will also be a significant darkroom component.

Your tutor, Michael Waite, will encourage you to relinquish total control of the camera, to explore unpredictable results and to be open to the good photographs that can happen by accident.

Required: Camera Craft 1 (or relevant experience)

Places strictly limited, ACP Membership is required
