Now and When - Katrina Kritikakis

Katrina Kritikakis

I have been in refuges but I've never been on the streets. I've got a big family and had a good family upbringing until I was 5 years old when my step dad turned up. I went through a lot of physical and emotional abuse. My Mum had the most beautiful heart and kept taking my step dad back. She got cancer and I nursed her for three years till she passed away. After that I turned to drugs.

I wanted to be a police woman and did a Diploma of Justice but when Mum died it all went down hill and I ended up on heroin and committed armed robbery. I can't do that career now but am only two subjects away from being a youth worker.

My Mum left me a housing commission house but I lost it through the drugs and I feel really bad that I didn't keep it to care for my sister. Kobbie and I are soon to get our own place and hopefully it will be a happier future. We're going to save up for a caravan and travel Australia. I'm going to be a photographer and photograph it all.

Kat's Story

Temptation is always around but at the end of the day, with my fiance's help, we pull through. We love each other and look forward to the future.
