There is much to learn to become a successful commercial photographer. Get a head start with this 5-week course for self-motivated entrepreneurs who are keen to learn the business basics of the photography industry. Business Basics for Photographers will be led by Fiona Wolf-Symeonides, an award-winning commercial photographer and practicing artist, who has been teaching at ACP since 2006. You will gain insight into freelancing including an introduction to industry standards and organisations such as the Australian Commercial and Media Photographers (ACMP) and the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP). You’ll pick up valuable networking tips and learn how to develop a marketing strategy and business plan. You’ll also explore other options to get started in the photographic industry such as becoming an assistant, a digital operator, a producer or a stylist. There is a strong emphasis on putting together a body of work and determining your strengths in photography, so you can confidently present a portfolio to potential clients. As a freelance photographer it is important to know your rights and be able to explain them to clients. This course outlines how to build and maintain a good reputation and also how to ensure the industry remains sustainable. This course will also feature guest speakers who are professionals in the photographic industry, providing a wide range of perspectives and industry insight. Business Basics will provide an understanding of day-to-day practice and help you break into the photographic industry. This is an intensive course requiring a significant amount of research, shooting and printing.
Required: Camera Craft 1 and Camera Craft 2 (or relevant experience)
